Money - the big Taboo
It used to be politics and religion that were our biggest taboo subjects. A survey has revealed that money has now overtaken both of these subjects to become the least discussed topic amongst people.
28% of us Britons say that their financial matters are too personal to be talked about and they would rather talk about their political views, relationship or health problems or job worries than let family and friends know about their financial situation.
Spiralling personal debt in the UK is causing stress and worry amongst many and people are too embarrassed to reveal their own situation, however bottling it up and burying your head in the sand could be the worst thing to do.
Fool.co.uk the website that offers independant advice on personal finance, is worried about this. “If we were more open with our partners, parents and friends about money then we’d realise that talking about our finances can help save us cash and ease the pressure of certain financial situations."
The facts and figures of the report suggest a generation divide as the older generation would rather discuss politics than money whilst the younger generation of 18-24 year olds opt to talk about their careers or sex. Interesting stuff
