Debt Awareness Campaign
A new debt awareness campaign is being launched by the Church of England. Statistics show that 18% of adults living in the UK have debts over £10,000 and that doesn't include mortgages.
The campaign is there to advise and support those in debt who feel it is taking over their lives. The worry this year is that with our continued spending and ever increasing debt, we will see a record number of insolvencies in 2008 than ever before. Some predictions report as many as 120,000 people will declare insolvency this year.
The campaign not only raises awareness and offers support but the advice they provide will include a ten point checking system to see if debt is starting to become a major problem in your life. Little warning signs such as seeing your savings dwindle away or paying off one credit card by applying for another.
This debt awareness campaign comes at just the right time of the year as we finally realise post-christmas, how much it actually cost us to celebrate. Many people overspend during the month of December - season of goodwill and all - and don't seem to realise until January when the bills start to appear through the letterbox just how much they spent.
The campaign, entitled Matter of Life and Debt, could be just the ticket for some people, and despite it being pushed by the Church who also use the power of prayers and guidance from the Bible, even if it helps just a few people it will have been worth it.
